Think Like a Monk:
Train Your Mind and Body for Peace and Purpose
By: Jay Shetty
Another Jay Shetty under my belt! I felt inclined to pick up this book after reading 8 Rules of Love to get more familiar with Shetty’s background.
I learned a lot about the practices and values of becoming a monk which are nearly all transferable to our daily lives and displayed by Jay Shetty. A lesson that really stuck with me was the idea that not only are we all teachers but we are also all students. In the ashram, Shetty explains that students would lead meditations and lessons that Monk leaders would listen to and learn from like a student. I love this idea because you can only believe this if you let go of your ego and tune into the fact that there is always something to learn from your peers and leaders. You are never smart enough to stop learning, and you are certainly wise enough to always teach others.
I enjoyed this book but wasn’t as blown away as I was from his other book. I still think there are valuable lessons to be learned from this book, and that many searching to do ego shadow-work would benefit from.
