I Forgot to Die:

By: Khalil Rafati

If you’ve ever heard of or had the pleasure of trying anything from Sunlife Organics the delicious and healthy smoothie bar (& so much more) then you should know the mastermind behind it all, Khalil Rafati.

However, what you may not know is the tumultuous feat to opening the shop and frankly staying alive. Khalil Rafati shares his tretcherous journey from birth to present times and everything inbetween. Rafati is vulnerable is his journey in and out of getting clean to ultimately staying clean and building his beautiful life he has today.

While I’ve read many stories about drug and alcohol addiction, Rafati shares even more about the sad and dark side of Skid Row and the souls who visit and/or reside there. You hear stories, pass judgement, view political stances on homeless, unemployed, and addicted people, but until you read a personal story and understand the before, during, and after of the worst times, you won’t get it. I gained a new perspecitive and sense off empathy for the beautiful people who are struggling so deeply and extreme respect for those strong enough to make it out on the other side.
